About Us - the date of our beginnings is incorrect. We should change to 2008 when the Vision was created or better yet 2007 when the group was formed.
"Here at Fair Oaks Village Enhancement Committee (FOVEC), we see the value in everyone working together to make our VIllage better. We want to be a catalyst for positive change, and since our beginnings in 2012, we’ve been driven"
Good Morning! I just signed up for the April 17 Social. The message following that says, See all your RSVP'd events in your Members Area under "Events”. Can we make it more specific and say something like "in your Members area under your profile and then Events.".
Also, I"m not sure it you've seen this but the "Thank you! See you soon" message does not fit across the page therefore the "n" on soon looks like an "r'
The reply is auto generated by Wix. It may be possible to change the default but I believe the better way to address this is through member education on the website. My hope is to use our newsletter and monthly updates to do brief training sessions that we also save online for later use.
Can you send a screen shot of the Thank You message that isn't displaying correctly on your screen?
@William Mercado The problem seems to be the pull-down menu is covering some of the screen. By clicking the down-chevron the menu will uncover the text. The other alternative is making the window wider.
Membership Dues: This is just a reminder that people can't become members yet since there is no way to pay for dues. Here is a copy of the bottom of the login page.
Membership is only $24/year and your donation directly supports the VIllage.Click here to pay now or we will send you an invoice for payment.

My focus has been on Groups and forums. The next thing I want to test is the search function in those areas. One observation I’ve noticed without explanation is that sometimes the display freezes momentarily but that’s hard to pin down as it can be many things. I expect to bring all of the existing content, including the history, over to the new site. I also want to expose all of our Google Drive documents on the new site. Before doing that we need to decide which documents will be limited to members or subsets of the membership. I will also need the account information for our fovec2011 Google account. I won’t be editing any of the documents, just need visibility to the drive to link them to the new site.…Keith
One tab I see missing in the new website is the Village Vision tab. For those who don't know much about the organization, it informs them of the big picture FOVEC strives towards while providing a list of what has been completed so far and what is being worked on now.
I plan to include the Vision material under the Village Guide. If we can increase member participation we should use the newsletter and stories to cross-reference material like the vision as well as some of our past stories.
@Keith Agreed! We need to find ways to keep the Vision relevant by referencing it to the things we have done, are doing or are planning to do. Let’s find more storytellers among our members even if they only create one or two stories a year. I think our current organization structure can allow for something like that.
First, thank you for taking the time to create a prototype that shows how a new FOVEC website could look using the added functionality from the Wix platform.
Wix websites in my opinion are usually very visual, very attractive and easy to use from a user perspective.
I like the addition of Forums as a place for discussions related to FOVEC but I’d like to know what can be done with these discussion threads...are they searchable?
>> yes, there is a search box at the top of the page
Since I’m always concerned about the maintenance and upkeep of things because of the work and cost associated... Are the forum discussions permanent or are they deleted at some point? Is the Forum monitor notified of new entries or updates?
>> like most similar sites new content pushes older content "down" so the only maintenance is if we choose to moderate for content. Most elements of the site allow you to get notifications and there are controls to limit when you get them
What's the difference between a Group and a Forum? When do you use one versus the other? Is a Group a specific set of people (e.g.Fundraising Subcommittee Members) who come together for discussions?
>>In general, any topic where we want public engagement should be in the Forum. Groups are best for the exchange of working documents and ideas within a team or group.
Moving our website over to WIX could be a fair amount of work for our very small team, so if we go there we need to do so knowing the good and the bad before we jump in.
I read something about SEO being difficult with WIX.
>>I use Wix for one of my business sites and did extensive research before choosing it as the best platform for this type of use. No technology is perfect but based on FOVEC's plans and the currently available technologies I am confident Wix is the best choice available today

If all we are looking for is Forums and Groups, I see that there are tools like websitetoolbox that allow you to add that function to your existing website without having to code. Here is a demo and pricing: https://www.websitetoolbox.com/support/demo-858

How we use the Forum and Groups and what we name them is all part of the testing, and I'm sure, over time, it will evolve. In general, any topic where we want public engagement should be in the Forum. Groups are best for the exchange of working documents and ideas within a team or group. We will need to figure out the balance between allowing anyone to create Topics and Groups and limiting them to keep the site friendly and manageable. Short term, I vote to err on the side of keeping it open and address any issues that come along on a case-by-case basis.
You are correct but I misspoke and meant to say Group, not Forum. I see that the current list of Groups are all Private except for the "Parking Project" which appears as Public. It should also be Private. In addition, for naming consistency all subcommittees should include that it the name. E.g. Parking Project Subcommittee. Thanks!

This looks good, I like that the site is mobile friendly, sign up and log in has been easy. I think the forum piece will be a valuable tool.

On the Forum, why is the Parking Project a Public forum instead of Private?
The Parking Project should say the “Parking Project Subcommittee”.
